A unique book of enormous value for the homeopathic community. It is the first book which shows the results of systematic verification of homeopathy. This is one of the few books borne out of research & experience and is something which adds to the homeopathic literature. It validates the science & gives useful information as to which symptoms given in our Materia Medica can be seen in patients clinically today & helps one segregate the symptoms which are not seen these days as author has gathered this information based on his clinical experience of 25 years.

This book claims to be one of the first books to provide not just expert clinical opinion, but aims to analyse and provide the facts and results from homeopathic prescribing from 16 years consecutive practice. The book is in 3 parts, translated from French into English, both languages printed in the book. The data was from 3538 patients (21,327 consultations) of which there was subsequently 2148 participants This would indicate some validity in terms of numbers of participants and the subsequent homeopathic prescriptions.

The author demonstrated two forms of data analysis: 'traditional verification' and 'statistical approach'. The first analyses those cases where there had been spectacular recovery or failure to recover. The second does not make any distinctive inclusion criteria, and takes into account all results of treatment, even those intermediate results.

The first section of the book provides data gathered from homeopathic prescribing, where a formal prediction of positive results from homeopathic prescriptions was exhibited by patients with several associated symptoms. Due to the restricted number of patient results used, the second section provides information only on the symptoms, and the link existing between them and the 'desired medicinal effect' of the remedy. The third section provides data for those homeopathic remedies, only prescribed to a few patients, for which only one symptom can be verified, as a link to the efficiency of the remedy.

The data is useful in terms of practise, providing the practitioner with verification from analysed remedy information. The format is rather confusing and some of the translation from French to English is unclear. The layout also adds to confusion as although the French version follows the English, it is essential to skim through the French to locate the rubric information.

Michael van Wassenhoven is a prominent member of the homeopathic research community and is president of the professional union: Unio homeopathica Belgica, Brussels. He is a founder of the European Committee for Homeopathy and Research Secretary for the Liga Medicorum Homeopathica International is. He states that it is essential that the homeopathic profession pools observational data to provide evidence of efficacy in treating patients, and provides website details for doing so. This would be an important step forward for homeopathy as a profession, providing substantial data for those who know little about the effectiveness of homeopathy as a treatment, and demonstrating the effectiveness of remedies prescribed for certain health conditions, an essential for any practitioner.
